Happy Monday!

Dear Parents and Students,

Thank you for your patience during this unprecedented time.  I hope you are all safe and healthy.

I want to give you all an update.

Today, the RHPS staff conducted a video conference to learn more about the continuity of learning going forward.  You should have received an email from our school office about this.

This week is Phase 1, and teachers are using this time to contact families to gather information.  Among other things, we want to learn whether your child is able to participate in online learning next week.

I inadvertently jumped the gun on contacting students and parents last week.  Most of you already replied to me.  Thank you.  This is why you did not get a phone call from me today.

Today, I along with Ms. Caughey started to telephone (only those) parents/students whom we haven't already heard from.  This said, if you would like to speak to me personally, please send me an email and I will gladly telephone you.

Next week is Phase 2 and online learning begins.  What this will look like exactly is still in the works.  We are waiting for more information to come from the ministry and the school board.  I am willing to bet that we will start with Literacy and Math.  Some of you have asked me questions like (a) How much time will we be online?  (b) What platforms will we use?  (c) Will we be video conferencing? and more.  I don't have all the details just yet, but I am certain that Google Classroom will be our main go-to tool.  I will email you once I have been given more details.

There are several house-keeping items that I need you to help me with over the next day or two:

1) I need to ensure that I have your correct emails.  If you are a parent, please reply to this email with "Hi Mrs. Lummiss.  This is Name of Child's parent."

2) Please check our blog on a daily basis.  The url is Lummiss1920.blogspot.com

3) Students: Please check your YRDSB GMails on a daily basis.

4) Students: I need you to join a new Homeroom Google Classroom and I also want to give you access to our online Math Textbook in the Math Google Classroom.  Please email me for the code.

I think that's all for now.  Thank you again for your patience.  We are venturing into uncharted waters with this remote learning, but I know we will make it work.

Please do not hesitate to email me if you have any questions.

All my best.

Jen Lummiss

Hey everyone, I miss you!

Dear Students and Parents,

Hey everyone, I hope that you are still doing well and participating in some form of learning activities. As of right now teachers are still waiting for direction regarding the continuity of learning for our students.  As much as I would like to jump right in, I have been instructed not to proceed with any online learning initiatives of my own until I get the go-ahead from the YRDSB and/or the Ministry of Education.

While we wait for direction, would you mind emailing me (jennifer.lummiss@yrdsb.ca) with answers to the following questions?  These questions come from me ... I am just trying to be proactive ... I can't wait to connect with my students again.

1. First off, how are you?  Are you and your family well?

2. I am assuming that we will be going to some form of online learning.  This may pose various challenges for my students, and I would like to wrap my head around ways to overcome these challenges.  For example, now that many parents are working from home, some of my students might find it difficult to access home technology because a parent might need it for their work.  Then again, this might not be a problem for any of my students.  I don't know.  This is why I am asking for feedback.  Please take a moment to tell me about any challenges you might foresee with online learning at home.

I will continue to share information with you as I get it.

Please be safe.

Sincerely,

Jen Lummiss

**If you know any one that is not reading the blog, please pass this information onto them and ask them to do the same.**

Happy March Break!

Hey everyone, I just wanted to say hi and I hope that you are all getting outside and enjoying this amazing weather!

I understand that the world is a crazy place right now, but please try to remember to be respectful, wash your hands and get some fresh air. Take care of yourself and everyone around you!

Since there is no assignments over the time that we are off, please feel free to visit the yrdsb website. Under resources, you will find several different learning tasks that will support your at home learning journey.
